Atlanta, Birmingham & Atlantic Railroad Company circular #1491 announcing Agent-Operator vacancy
Issued at Superintendent C. E. Brower's office in Fitzgerald, Georgia. The railroad had reached Lineville only 9 years earlier, in 1907. My grandfather later bid on the Lineville agency (in the 1930's) and held the Supervisory Agent-Operator position for over 40 years. Several Western Division agencies were staffed by Supervisory Agents who could NOT be rolled off their jobs by men with seniority. Supervisory Agents were a hybrid position between management and normal rank and file agency positions.
