The open deck bridge in the foreground is a few days away from being placed into service replacing the old Tallapoosa River bridge in the background
In a matter of weeks, the truss bridge will be gone. Several years later, CSX would extend Wadley siding from the old control point in town all the way out to this location (around the curve on the right of this photo).

Darrell Krueger General Didn't the Coast Line have a bridge fall into a river in the 80's? I seem to remember hearing about this in a Trains article 1/19/2010 11:59:58 AM
Fred Stuckmann General Very nice comparison shot. I remember a similar shot in Trains. 1/26/2011 7:40:00 AM

Charles Burgess General Neat photo! 1/26/2011 11:04:20 PM
Eugene Cain General I think that bridge was on the L&N....I think, not certain. I remember seeing a Train with Frisco Units crossing the repaired structure in Trains. Why was this replaced...the old Bridge looks fine. Very neat shot!! 4/3/2011 1:29:46 PM
James Ray General Great shot! I've always wondered what the old bridge looked liked. As far as the bridge collapse, it was the Coosa River bridge, on the Linveville sub as well. I cant remember the exact details but I 'think' it was due to a clearance problem. A train snagged one of the trusses and they both wound up in the river. Whatever it was, I know the Tallapoosa river bridge was replaced as a result of that. In the early 2000s there was one through truss bridge left on the line, the 2nd Crooked Creek crossing south of Cragford. 4/4/2011 5:39:36 PM
